Description

An influential figure in the 1970s British indie cinema, producer/directorPete Walker tested the limits of film censorship in the UK with a stringof gruesome and erotic thrillers.

This second anthology of films by Pete Walker reveals the provocativedirector at his most diabolical. Whether skewering highbrow drama (TheFlesh and Blood Show), established religion (House of Mortal Sin), or legalhypocrisy (Home Before Midnight) Walker laces his films with a wicked senseof humour and healthy dollops of sex and violence. One perfect example isthe legendary shocker Frightmare, which stars the late Sheila Keith as afortune-teller-slash-cannibal in the English countryside. Also featured inthis collection are two of Walker’s early works: man of Violence (aka Moon)and The Big Switch (aka Strip Poker), which clearly foreshadow the tastefor the perverse (and the flair for cynical humour) that would later becomehis hallmarks.
