Redemption On Facebook

News

We are very excited to be able to announce that we have signed five films by the renowned and at time extraordinary writer and director, Alain Robbe-Grillet.

Robbe-Grillet who wrote and directed a number of controversial and provocative films in his own confrontational style purposefully avoided structured narrative in order to “show imagination at work”. His films dealt with violence, murder, destruction, sex, love, bondage and so on, in ways that would often force the viewer to find out the films meaning by chance or unexpectedly as the story evolved.

Redemption has signed five superb examples of Robbe-Grillet’s work: Trans-Europe-Express (1967). The Man Who Lies (1968), Eden and After (1970) and Slow Slidings of Pleasure! (1974). Also included as an extra with Eden and After will be the alternate version, N Take the Dice (1971).

Issue 16 also features the late, Peter Cushing on the cover and devotes most of the issue to the great man, on what would have been his hundredth birthday.

Night of the Hunted, Jean Rollin’s violently sexual take on the science fiction film is finally getting its well deserved release on Blu-ray. They eat horses don’t they? The French not only eat horses but they like some tasty wine to accompany their food, wine made with local grapes. The only problem with the grapes in Jean Rollin’s gruesome and majestic film, Grapes of Death, is that chemicals have infected the grapes and the local villagers have been turned into vicious psychopaths, killing and abusing anyone they encounter!

Grapes of Death represents a rare departure from vampirism for director Jean Rollin into what is essentially zombie territory and he does so in his own inimitable way. Mixing some extremely graphic violence, sex and nudity, with stylish colours and imagery, all captured beautifully in our newly remastered HD Blu-ray release. Rollin’s film is shown for the undiscovered gem it is.

Jean Rollin’s politically incorrect apocalypse, Schoolgirl Hitchhikers aka Jeunes filles impudiques (Naughty Young Girls), is about to be unleashed on Blu-ray in all its fleshy glory! Starring the voluptuous and totally shameless Joëlle Coeur and her blonde sidekick, Gilda Arancio, as a pair of coquettish teenage delinquents who break into a country house only to find that some crooks have beaten them to it and taken up residence already. Featuring an odd mixture of ‘carry-on’ style drama mixed with some seriously sadistic and nasty sex sequences, Schoolgirl Hitchhikers is a sexploitation film that only Rollin could have made. Whilst Coeur's raw sexuality and seemingly natural lustiness show why Rollin would have chosen her for the lead female role in his savagely sexual film Demoniacs which he made the following year.

We’re very pleased to be stocking some great new titles on Blu-Ray and DVD including a fabulously remastered Jezebel release of The Sex Thief, and although not on Redemption, a very worthy release of the horror classic, White Zombie, which hardened Redemptionites will remember from our UK video release way back in the halcyon days of the early 1990’s.

Also added to our shop is a massive Blu-ray collection of the films of cinema’s legendary Buster Keaton*, who, whilst nothing to do with horror, created some classics of cinema and as such we felt it was well worth stocking this fabulous release. Also now available from us is another cinema classic, Sergei Eisenstein’s iconic film, Battleship Potemkin, which includes the famous massacre on the Odessa Steps and the tumbling pram sequence, something all film fans should see at least once.

* Film buffs though will credit the link between Buster Keaton and his Granddaughter, Camille Keaton, who starred as the brutalised writer in the original I Spit on Your Grave.

All titles available in our shop now.

Two classics of British seventies horror cinema are about to get the Redemption Blu-ray treatment having been remastered from the original materials and with both titles now looking absolutely stunning.

Blood Beast Terror (1968), which stars the legendary Peter Cushing and the gorgeous Vanessa Howard,  is a bizarre tale of a scientist who genetically creates a creature that can mutate from a blood eating Death's Head moth back to a beautiful woman with shrug flap of its wings.

Burke and Hare (1972), starring Darren Nesbitt and the lovely Françoise Pascal (The Iron Rose), is  based on the infamous Scottish grave-robbers.

Both titles are released on July 17th 2002. Covers previewed here soon.

Redemption's favourite sister label, Jezebel, which specialises primarily in sexploitation and erotic cinema from the 1960's and 1970's is about to release two absolute classic films on DVD, That Kind of Girl (1963) and Permissive (1970).

That Kind of Girl centres on a sexy blond au pair called Eva (Margaret Rose Keil) who is pursued and bedded by a variety of lecherous men until, horror of horrors, she finds that she has contracted a sexual transmitted disease and decides to mend her ways. A great film and a fascinating insight into England and London in the early sixties, when things didn't so much swing, as swayed.

The Rape of the Vampire, shot in 1967 and premiered at the height of the turmoil that gripped France in 1968, is Jean Rollin's first feature film and his first filmic interpretation of the vampire legend. Shot in black and white in two halves, Rape of the Vampire, so shocked its film audiences in Paris that Rollin was chased out of the cinema and pursued by a hostile mob of enraged cinephiles and thus established himself as a true outsider. From there on Rollin continued to pursue and create his filmic, vampire fantasies regardless of the baying mobs and critics that dogged his work. Now, finally, Rape of the Vampire is released by Redemption as it should be, in high definition and with the black and white tones perfectly reproduced. Also included with this great release are Jean Rollin's first two short films, Les Amours jaunes (The Yellow Loves, 1958, 9 minutes) and Les Pays loin (The Far Country, 1965, 16 minutes)

Originally intended for Argentinian TV, this 2008 film was deemed too extreme for broadcast and was shelved until being rescued from obscurity by Redemption. It centres on a young and pretty lesbian actress who rents an apartment and is in turn spied on by her perverse and voyeuristic landlord.

Her landlord soon escalates from watching to doing as he repeatedly gases and rapes the unconscious tenant again and again. Eventually the actress gets pregnant but never having knowingly had sex with a man believes that a miracle has happened.
